OAR is an acronym for Original Aspect Ratio

OAR has been getting a lot of talk of late in Home Theater circles, not sure I’m 100% on the bandwagon here. The basic premise is always keeping the original aspect ratio of a film or video intact when released on DVD. In theory this is a great idea 99.0% of the time. But there are those few instances where cropping or reformatting an odd ball aspect ratio is acceptable to offer a viewing experience more compatible for a greater number of users and equipment .
