TNT HD launched May 21st in 1080i. Initial impressions were mixed, at best. Some programming has been up scaled from SD and many people assumed all the NBA games aired would be in HD. There also seems to have been a few cases of programming originally shot in 16:9 now resized to 4:3, which is odd for an “HD channel”. In all fairness TNT HD needs a little time to sort some of these problems out, but then again why not sort more of them out before going live.
In cable card news Philips, Mitsubishi, Thomson and others have joined in the cable card standard.
