CEATEC Japan 2004

October 7, 2004

I thought I’d post a few items from the recent CEATEC 2004 consumer electronics show in Japan. First, as I’m sure many of you have heard, Sharp demonstrated a 65” LCD with a panel resolution of 1920×1080. Needless to say this is the world’s largest LCD television, a title that has changed hands 3 times in as many weeks. But I have a feeling Sharp will retain this bragging right, for some time.

Also displayed at CEATEC was the Sanyo Z3, the long awaited successor to the popular Z2 LCD projector. The projector has a stated 2000:1 contrast ratio and 800 ANSI lumens. The fan noise was said to be 23dB, extremely low by any accounts. Attendees to the show reported much better color performance with the Z3 than its predecessor. Given the success of the Z2 this should be one of “must sees” for 2005.
