Loewe to cease U.S distribution

November 17, 2004

I find it a little odd that in a still booming high definition display market such as North America, that Loewe would cease distribution. I suppose pressure from lesser priced makes such as Samsung and Panasonic could be to blame, but I have a feeling that their marketing was just as much at fault.

If anyone remembers the ‘Proton’ line of displays from the late eighties on thru the nineties, much of the same thing happened with that company, excellent products that consistently outperformed competitors, but U.S consumers just didn’t seem willing to pay for the difference. The Euro to dollar exchange rate was said to have a major impact on production costs, resulting in significantly lower profit margins for Loewe in North America.
