Pixel Magic Systems, Plasma Enhancer PE1000

November 30, 2004

truelife_duoWhen I first glanced over Pixel Magic’s description of the Plasma Enhancer PE1000 I thought ‘well that’s a fancy scaler isn’t it’. But upon further investigation I realized there might be a tad more to this product than that.

The PE1000 is said to “enhance the picture quality of Plasma, LCD and Rear Projection TVs”. So what’s this thing all about? Well one key element would appear to be the Genesis DCDi which in my experience is a more than capable de-interlacer. That paired with a high quality tuner and Pixel Magic’s proprietary “True-Life enhancement” makes for quite a feature set. Hyperbole aside this product might be worth a look for those, wanting a ‘little more’ from their display.

Paraphrasing from Pixel Magic’s literature, about the True-Life function “it enhances the small details and colors in images, and improves depth perception by sharpening large edges without introducing visual artifacts or distortion. The overall result is a richer, more pleasing, high-definition-like picture”.

Not having utilized one of these super scalers my self I can’t really quantify any of that, but it does sound like the type of product that, paired with the right Plasma (i.e. one that needs a little help to really shine) might be a worth-while product.

  • Thanks from a regular reader. HTB continues to be a regular source of interesting perspectives.

The Plasma Enhancer looks like fun. And the “The Pixel Magic System” would be an interesting thing to see. Apparently it simplifies clock and phase adjustments?

BTW the example images in the downloadable brochure appear a bit more legitimate than the .gifs on the site. Still no mention their source however. Guess you gotta see that first hand. This company sounds well in tune with plasma display technology.
