InFocus ScreenPlay news, December 27th, 2004

December 27, 2004

infocus_screenplayAs I reported back in October, InFocus will introduce a new DLP front projection unit at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas (according to a Texas Instruments newsletter). The Screenplay 7210 utilizes the new DarkChip3 technology from Texas Instruments, and should again offer increased contrast, improved black levels and greater video-optimized lumens, over the 7200/7205. Retail is said to be sub $7K.

This new projector was built and developed on the same platform as the award-winning ScreenPlay 7200 and 7205. The 7210 pretty much sits (price wise) where the 7205 was in InFocus’s lineup, the 7205 was reduced to $6,999 MAP recently, so with this news I’d expect that already reasonable price to drop further.

Still no word on a 720p capable replacement for the ScreenPlay 5700, but the rumors on that one have actually grown since my last report, not diminished. But who knows what last minute news will come from Vegas this year.
