The chairman of APEX digital is having a rough day

December 31, 2004

apexYeah I’d say getting arrested in China on fraud charges wouldn’t be in my top 10 list of things to try. But that’s exactly what happened to the chairman of Apex Digital, David Ji in the southwestern province of Sichuan China recently. Apex who distributes DVD players, TVs and other consumer electronics devices apparently owes several Chinese manufacturers somewhere in the neighborhood of $500 million dollars. This almost this sounds like some plot from Dr. Evil, ‘500 meeelllion dollllarsss…

Earlier this week a spokesman for Apex – the top seller of DVD players in the US in 2003 – said it was struggling to meet home TV orders.

Police in Chengdu, in the southwestern province of Sichuan, have not revealed why Mr Ji, born in China, was arrested.

US consular officials and Apex have also not revealed the reason behind the arrest.
