Sony’s ‘black screen’ technology has a name

January 6, 2005

sonyI think come spring we’ll all be hearing a lot more about “Chromavue” screens, as they have consistently packed more wow factor than all most any other product on display at the recent CEDIA and InfoComm shows in 2004. Although the recent Sony CES press release only mentions them in passing (text below), I think it’s safe to say more and more details will be available in the coming months:

“The company touted new ways to show high-definition video such as the new 80-inch Chromavue screen with black screen technology, designed to reflect ambient light for an enhanced home theater experience even during the daytime.”

For those interested in some of the technical jargon and specifications associated with the Chromavue screen, the US patent office keeps a record of the patent for the technology filed by Kazuhito Shimoda on behalf of Sony.

**update**
Sony now has a press release specific to the Chromavue.
