Voom lives

February 10, 2005

voomI have to say selfishly that is, that I’m ecstatic with this news. The Dolan’s (Charles & Tom) and other unidentified investors have bought Voom’s remaining assets from cablevision, and intend to keep the high definition satellite service broadcasting. VOOM HD, LLC will continue to broadcast on Rainbow 1, (likely leased from Dishnetwork) and later on, switchover to Rainbow 2 or the other satellites already in production from Lockheed.

Voom has been drug through the dirt lately by the ‘electronic press’, much of the time from writers who clearly lack the vision to see ‘down the road’. HDTV is here to stay and continues to grow, surely choice for all of those consumers is a good thing. I’m really glad this ended up as it has, yes it’s still relatively early in the process, but for now at least the best in HDTV programming available thus far, will continue on. Bring on that DVR!

I guess they resolved the “family quabble” over what to do with Voom…

Tom’s on-board with Dad (Charles), while James Dolan is surely to remain with Cablevision. I guess DBS is
thicker than blood, at least for two of them.
