Carnivale season finale

carnivaleTry as I may to keep the subject matter geared towards the hardware end of home theater, occasionally I have to venture off into blaberdom about one of my favorite shows. I’m so pissed about the season finale of Carnivale last night, I’ve got to vent. First off my girlfriend and I argued through most of the show that this would be the last episode (I won) but in a way I lost, I predicted the episode would end with an open door to a third season, but not that freaking wide open.

This Do-Over mentality has me tee’d off to no end. I mean I realize I’m talking about a show with healers as primary characters, but freaking die already would you Justin? I enjoyed the episode immensely, until that long pan out of the cornfield, when it began to wither away, I moaned out “ohhhhh noooo”. HBO come on, in prior teasers for upcoming episodes you counted off “just 5 more episodes left” “just 4 more” etc. then that call was replaced by “3 more episodes this season” if the decision to renew Carnivale was made late, it showed in the quality of the finale.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed seeing Justin get his, but to have that belly laugh punched out of me, by teasing that it was just temporary, well for lack of a better term, sucked. Oh well what can I do? Say that’s it no more Carnivale, regardless if there’s a third season or not? No I’m hooked I admit it, but it doesn’t mean I have to like it. Well Hucky Duck, here’s to season three I guess.

    Please bring back Carnivale! We loved it and wanna see more of it! It was a brilliant show and better than most other rubbish on tv!

    Dudes, who said jonesy is dead? I only saw him falling down, not dieing? We could assume so but we dont know so, btw the makers of the series make the same assumption. I saw it on the dvd extras!

    Alright people, I thought it's obvious, but You here are really incredible!
    I don't know how do you watch the series...
    1. Justin IS dead.
    2. Sophie revives him not only using the corn field but also Jonesy's life that she took earlier. And she's doing it because Justin IS her father, not "for no apparent reason" as some of You has mentioned.
    3. Justin said to Sophie "choose a side" and she does it. I don't think there will be any struggle. She made her choice when she killed Jonesy, that's all to it. Samson and the rest are not completely wrong - she won't let one of her own die, but she's no more a carni, she's OMEGA.
    4. the only people that knew about her ware Lodz and her mother, that's the reason she wanted to kill her.
    5. Hawkings IS the new menagement. (the last shot clearly indicates it)
    6. As through the whole series (including the first season) we KNEW (yes we did) that Sophie is Justins daughter, we also know that she is NOT pregnant whatsoever.
    7. How we know all this? Look at the parallel threads of Justin and Sophie. Any similarities? Well? And now remember what Libby told Sophie after 'her firt time', watch 'her time with Hawkings' again and think about Justin in the context of children. Oh, and You DO understand what 'it's your house' words means, right?

    I'm a film critic from Poland and I think that Carnivale is the best tv series of the 'new gen shows' that I've seen. Ba, it's the most peciuliar, ground breaking TV show ever. And it's artistic values are unmatched in the world of TV series'es...anywhichway you write that...

    Carnivale was exceptional, hands down. I believe that we shouldn't judge too harshly the finale because the series ended in a sloppy fashion under duress. HBO enjoyed the recognition and awards... and then cast these amazing and talented people aside like a bag of trash. That says alot and not only did I cancell my subscription (because why would I allow them to do it again with another series-if they can ever even match it)but several friends were just as disgusted and took the same course of action. If this is what other devastated fans are doing, then HBO better "shake some dust...!!" as Samson would say. God, I miss him!

    Love love love Carnivale!!! what the hell is wrong with HBO? i can't believe they are so stupid as to cancel carnivale and deadwood. after the final Sopranos i will be getting rid of my subscription.

    Anybody think that Sofie's killing Jonesey might be because she needs his life to bring back Justin?

    I know Ben did it (to Lodz) with his own hands; aka strnagle him, but in my opinion, shooting somebody might as well count as "with her own hands" no?

    Unless of course you are one of the travelling people who would rather be called Gypsys than Rom and are actually insulted by the word 'Rom'like me.

    And if you pay attention 'ath' didn't use it 'Nokmin' did, nor did he do so in relation to the peoples he used it in the common usage which means as an irritant.

    The word is only 'assumed' to be related to the word 'gypsy'

    'Gypsy' is a slang word that historically relates to Egyptian travellers particularly not Roma.

    It is contextually similar to the Englishism 'jip' meaning 'a pain' which has nothing to do with the other roots.

    Be nice if you checked who said what before you jumped on your idiotic PC high-horse and started accusing innocent people of Racism (which is what you did.)which is far more deeply insulting than the use Nokmin made of a word.

    Yes Third series not coming... shame... money spent on Lowbrow idiotic pap for some reason.

    I'm a renter so way behind you all in seeing the finale. Some of the little things didn't bother me--Ben and Sophie were inept before they got their "boons" passed on, and I agree that Ben already affected Justin when he healed, though he didn't know it.

    I'm more pissed off at the loose ends like Lodz saying he was about to return--and the entire thread is dropped at the last minute.

    If anything, the horrid commentary on the DVD versions was a complete was. The series deserved better. I don't spend hours examining the meaning of symbolism to finally hear the director say that such-and-such actor was "just amazing to work with" over and over. Please.

    Finally, ath, I respectfully ask you to refrain from using the word "gyp." It's a racial slur and disrespectful to the Roma people. Thanks
