InfoComm 2005 preview

June 3, 2005

InfoComm 2005It’s hard to believe that this years InfoComm has rolled around again, but next week (June 8-10) the doors will open and vendors from all corners of the A/V and Telecommunications industry will espouse the virtues of their wares. InfoComm 05 will be held in Las Vegas this year, not quite as convenient as last years as it was less then 3 miles from home, but I do look forward to what this years show has in store.

I typically catch a little pre-show buzz as to what will become some of the more talked about products, but this year things are surprisingly quiet, which could be good or bad I suppose we’ll know next week. One thing I am hearing is that the “black” or light rejecting screen trend will continue, the chatter I’m getting says to keep an eye out for things in-line with Sony’s Chromavue screen, but possibly on a larger scale.

One pre-show press release indicates just such a product but it’s touted as being geared for commercial use, not home theater. The SuperNova Screen is said to be an “optical front projection screen for brightly-lit meeting rooms. It delivers an extraordinary ten times higher contrast and two times brighter images than standard front screens”. Sounds good, maybe too good. I do hope light rejecting screens for home theater use are showcased as well, stay tuned for details.
