I am at the moment thinking of purchasing the bose wave radio cd.Ive read the comments above and dont agree to most of them. For a start ive been a fan of bose since i can remember ok some of the products they manufacture are over priced and low in quality but that wouldnt put me of buying some of the larger systems. They do have a proven track record that they can produce a large conponment hifi sound in little wave speakers.

to David and Ben, bose are massively insensitive speakers, which means you need a higher power amp for a given SPL. aside from that, power isn't really an issue, my 40W amp, used with reasonably efficient speakers gives me an easy 105+ db in my medium-sized room.

Dvid 90w RMS is more than enough power to drive just about any sort of speaker, If there's a problem its likely to be the wiring/integration of the bose system. Don't the Bose systems run a dedicated powered subwoofer with the satellites powered from that, I doubt your amp is providing any power at all.

I think people are finally starting to get that the Bose stuff isn't particularly special - It just doesn't sound very good.

However I still have clients who insist that their Bose sounds better than just about anything else, I can put that down to taste or just that they are used to the sound. Its the same sometimes with a TV, the user will insist it looks better at full brightness (it doesn't).

Hi everyone,

I use to be a bose fans. 1 year ago i bought wave system at S$930. The sound was good and clear. Its compact and unique. So i have confident with bose. This year i bought a accustimass 5, the sound was not clear and really no mid sounds, bass was not powerfull at all. Mayb its becouse i am using a Yamaha Amp 90w (RMS) not power enought. I should have use a more powerfull Amp going at 200W. In future i would not go for expensive speakers. Some cheaper speaker can also produce clear and deep bass sound.

Holy crap B. Greenway, I never realized that! Damn, now that I think about it none of their "receivers" have the Dolby Digital or DTS stamp on them, YIKES! That's reason enough alone to avoid them like the plague.

I know everyone is trying to keep their composure and be subjective about Bose, but honestly, they are just such garbage. I really don't even understand how someone can say anything good about them... They really have no redeeming quality seeing as you can get speakers that cost half as much that would absolutely destroy the Bose speakers in every way possible. As far as I'm concerned, they serve no purpose even being on the market, at all.

I just noticed something else about the Bose home theater systems, and quite honestly I can’t believe I never noticed this before, they aren’t true “Dolby Digital 5.1” capable.

Apparently they use a proprietary chip for their decoding. The only mention of 5.1 on their description pages is “Digital 5.1 decoding, improved realism from 5.1-encoded DVDs, DBS or HDTV”.

Notice the mention of Dolby is absent from the description. Interesting…

Not to be picky, but.... Sony was founded in 1946 as Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo, and changed names to Sony Corporation in 1958.

I agree that bose is all marketing (they even have google adwords runnung on this site!) But when you say that Dell / Mac are in the same boat in their own industry because they are good marketers that i do not agree with. Dell and Apple do not charge 200% more for their products then their direct competitors expecting people to think that because they cost more they are a better product.

You know...I started out with a Bose Acoustimass system with my Yamaha receiver about 7 years ago. I took them back after about 45 min. into the first movie. I got my money back, purchased Paradigm's and have never looked back. They have the same warranty as Bose and are built much better.

Of course it's advertising. Look at any market, when I say computer will you say Dell/Mac? Well what about HP/Sony/Compaq/... list goes one. Sometimes the better known product is not always the better product, but it's who has the money to advertise it effectively. Where would APPLE be without it's advertising...? Steve Jobs would be gone, but thanks to his little buddy advertising, his business has grown. When I say name a MP3 player, yet there are more than 8 types, you will name the IPOD. Though Sony may or may not have a better device, which gives more features, it us ultimately advertising which ultimately penetrates our minds into believing one over the other. I used to be a salesman as well, and noticed that selling people a product that was "better" but less advertised was time consuming and in the end the consumer still wanted the "worse" product but better advertised. I ultimately gave in, and played along with the advertising; sales increased dramatically and soon noticed how we as a society are influential by any form of advertising. Whether it’s the same ad you have seen everywhere or the same commercial that still makes you laugh, advertising is key in a business.

You can guess of course, I'm an advertising Major undergrad student. And I have the Bose headphones (150) and the IPOD.
