HD-DVD vs. Blu-ray, decided yet?

April 5, 2006

HD-DVD vs. Blu-rayWith Warner’s HD-DVD titles set to launch on April 18th and HD-DVD players expected shortly after, I couldn’t help but wonder if our readers have decided on either format or simply decided format wars suck.

Have you made up your mind? I have but I’m not spilling the beans just yet. Of course undecided is always a viable option when it comes to unproven formats, but heck I subscribed to Voom I’m not afraid to draw a line in the sand, even if its quicksand.

Obviously the poll isn’t an accurate measurement of the public at large, as I’m assuming many of you are more familiar with the whole format war than most folks, but I think it’ll be interesting to see the results just the same.

I would think that PS3 is going to make blu-ray win once there is enough PS3's. There are a lot of loyal playstation fans still waiting for another big release. hopefully before the end for christmas or january.

Price. Typically, I'm an HD enthusiast nut whose willing to early-adopt and throw money around like most of you...but I've spent far too much on my current rig to not want to cut every cost I can in future upgrades. Half the cost of Blu-ray, the discs being cheaper themselves, and the fact that there still are or will be plenty of good movies that I want available - means that HD-DVD is the answer for me.

Unless Sony reveals some major surprises at E3 both about the PS3's expected price and features as a movie player - then I don't see my mind being changed any time soon...

I believe that more studio support, and the inclusion of a BD player in the Playstation 3 is going to make this format the winner. I'm curious what other people are basing their decision on?
