Home Theater Show-n-Tell

I thought I’d a take a minute and share some of my firms A/V work. No plugs, I just wanted to show the type of thing’s I do at the nine-to-fiver. This is a project we completed last year, but I just never got around to putting the photos and text together. Speaking of the photos I apologize for the poor resolution, I’ve since upgraded my camera, but these were taken with its predecessor.
The home theater room itself is a custom one-off design and is finished in deep brown suede with black acoustical trim panels. Three rows of leather home theater recliners take care of the creature comforts. The equipment rack is housed in an unused walk-in closet adjacent to the theater room, which eliminates any heat or noise from the equipment bleeding into the room.
The system equipment consists of Crestron for control, processing and amplification. The front, rear, side, and center speakers are Bay Audio, all around including dual powered subwoofers. The video projector is a Marantz VP-12S3, soon to be replaced with a Marantz VP-12S4. The screen is a dual aspect ratio Vutec-Vision XFV- 110” diagonal. Sources consist of a Kaleidescape for DVD playback and Sony HDTV receivers for satellite, although we’re probably going to go with DirecTV HD-DVR’s pretty soon.
The theater is fully automated down to preset lighting levels and thermostat controls on the Crestron touch panel. Another touch panel upstairs will illuminate pathway lighting to the theater and turn on the projector and sources, so by the time you’re downstairs and seated it’s warmed up and ready to go.
Overall I’m really satisfied with the end result, and given the fact that our customer has invited several friends over to show it off, I think he’s quite satisfied as well.

I notice what looks like 3 Cable boxes, 3 DirecTV Sat boxes and 4 of another source (can’t quite make out) in the rack. Is that rack for whole house distribution? If so what are you using to distribute video, cat5 or something else? I wish I had that much height and depth to fit chairs in my custom theater.
That’s really impressive. I had no idea that you actually install and sell audio and video equipment. No wonder your coverage is so through.
Did you happen to see the Star Wars Home Theater that showed up on Digg earlier this month? It was unbelievably cool. If only I was a gazillionaire, I’d build my own death star.

Yeah thats the whole-house system as well. We’re using a Crestron PVID with a mix component feeds and room boxes, depending on length from the system.

I’m also in the Audio/Visual install business, it does indeed look like a nice setup - there’s nothing more satisfying than having a customer like, enjoy and use their home cinema system.
I work for a company called H3-Digital we are a Phuket, Thailand based home cinema / smart home automation company. We are finding that more and more customers are combining a home cinema setup in their house plans, most are more budget oriented but we are in the process of designing a couple of high end home theatres along the same lines as this.

FANTASTIC theatre, it looks amazing!!! I am currently running the denon 3805 reciever with a denon 2910 dvd player with an 32 inch lcd t.v, not as spectacular as yours but I am getting there. The denon products I bought as a result of your reviews on the 3805.. Thanks.
What are the walls made of? Where can I find this in the US?
