Yeah comedy of errors as in humorous that it happened to both sides. i.e neither side managed to pull off the flawless launch they were hoping for. Not that it really matters to either side in the long run. Except possibly the extra 30 days or so HD-DVD has to gauge their products reception and tweak their plan accordingly

I’m not sure how many times something was delayed sticks in the memories of the average consumer. Once it’s out its out but giving your competitor a head start on a less expensive solution doesn’t exactly sound like a great plan to me.

I seem to remember a Sony exec at CES 2005 holding up a Blu-ray disc saying we’re going to be ready, in answer to a Toshiba spokesman that said Blu-ray was vaporware.

Obviously neither statement was true but now with this it’s slightly ironic.

Not to mention all the Blu-ray proponents that cited HD-DVD’s delays as evidence that the format was somehow flawed, does the same logic hold true now that the tables are turned?

Will a month matter a lot in the long run? Probably not but I don’t know what HD-DVD titles are on tap for the next 30 days, apparently only the studios do as they’ve been announcing some of them as little as a week before shipment.

Sony may have more titles at launch than HD-DVD did, but HD-DVD will have more titles on the shelf by the time Blu-ray launches, kind of wash in my opinion.

Than means that your favorite movie may not come out on the player you buy. The lack of cooperation among the movie producers means you will either need to buy two players, one of each, wait for a combo player, or pick a studio and do without some of the movies you may want to watch.

At least Sony only delayed their stuff once. Toshiba delayed again and again and again.

In the end, a month or two headstart won’t make a difference in the war.
