Toshiba Announces HD-E1,HD-XE1 HD DVD Players for Europe

Pictured above is the Toshiba HD-E1 HD DVD player for the European market. We now have more details on both (HD-E1 & HD-XE1) models via a German Toshiba product sheet. The official announcement is still expected to come Saturday from President & CEO of Toshiba Digital Media, Yoshihide Fujii.
So here’s what we know so far. Toshiba will announce two HD DVD players for the European market, at the IFA 2006 - World of Consumer Electronics show in Berlin. Both models are expected to be similar to the planned replacements for the HD-A1 and HD-XA1 for North America.
HD-E1: €599 - Availability November.
Supported HD video output resolutions: 720p, 1080i
Supported audio formats: Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD
HDMI 1.2
HD-XE1: €899 - Availability December.
Supported HD video output resolutions: 720p, 1080i, 1080p
Supported audio formats: Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD

Exciting stuff I can’t wait to see their North American counterparts. Now I wonder when we might hear about those…

American version out in December, too bad the Dolby TrueHD is only going to be 5.1 and not 7.1. What a waste, to put in HDMI 1.3 to allow the full potential of the player and then fumble it on the audio.
Have any studios started recording soundtracks in 7.1 yet ?? You can always use your audio processor to convert 5.1 to 7.1 if its available.
