30 Years of VHS

October 11, 2006

JVC VCRAs you may have already read VHS celebrated its 30 year anniversary this week, JVC’s little format that could forever changed home entertainment. While utterly antiquated compared to today’s high definition disc formats, VHS delivered the idea of owning movies to the masses and that alone reserves a special place for JVC in the home video hall of fame.

Oddly enough 30 years later we’re faced with another format war much like the battle between VHS and Beta, unlike that battle however this one may not be as cut and dried. Regardless I felt it was important to mention JVC’s accomplishment and likewise the IEEE recently awarded JVC the prestigious IEEE Milestone award, in recognition of their development of the VHS home video format.

Man I absolutely loved LD, great picture (compared to VHS) and nice big covers that artwork could actually fit on as opposed to tiny little DVD jackets.
