I am looking for a HDMI 1.3 video and audio converting receiver going to a Sharp 1080 P 52″ LCD, will hook up our PS3 and Dish Network HDTV receiver, can you please advise a receiver that might work well for me but not cost more than $1000? Thanks!

Interesting discussion, though I’d like to see these 1.3 capable receivers sooner rather than later! I’ve already a toshica XA2 & PS3 and I’m chomping at the bit to decode the new lossless formats in a receiver, esp. since the PS3 has no analog out. Audio on the XA2 analog outs sounds great btw.

The new Chipset to decode HDMI 1.3 with DD+, Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master HD Audio are less than $10 in bulk, so I have no idea why Denon would reserve the decoding of new lossless audio standards for the higher end stuff, other than to force people to buy their overpriced flagship models.

Does anyone have a good guess as to the quality HDMI 1.3 might mean for SACD? Will having an PS3 passing thru HDMI 1.3 to a nice new Denon amp sound as good as or better than a high end SACD player passing the sound through analog cables to a quality amp?
I know it is all hypothetical since none are out yet… but…

Hi Peter, Denon and Marantz are owned by the same holding company “D&M Holdings” and have been for quite some time. Some of the products are even manufactured on the same assembly lines. Are there differences between the two lines? absolutely but not a completely different manufacturing and technological philosophy, hence my assumption that Marantz would share some of the same specifications as the upcoming Denon products.

Why assume that Marantz will do the same as Denon?. Denon are the industry technology leader and Marantz do not have access to Denon technology, which is why a lot of Marantz Home Theater product is a bit old-fashioned.

I could see video processing limited to entry level receivers. I cannot see why the entry level receiver should be deprived of lossless codecs from DTS and Dolby.
