LG Blu-ray - HD DVD Player

It may not win any industrial design awards but it does qualify as the first stand-alone Blu-ray slash HD DVD player. More details can be found at Best Buy’s product page that’s right the retailer has already put up the preliminary details for LG’s (BH100) “Super Multi Blue Player”. The price you ask? $1,199.99, looks like my first guess of $1200 was the winner.

Based on Best Buy’s product page it appears as if LG didn’t skimp on the feature-set either, the back-panel shows “1080p” HDMI output, component video outs, 5.1 analog audio outputs, coaxial and digital optical outputs and an Ethernet connection. Not bad, I look forward to getting my hands on one of these all-in-one HD disc spinners for evaluation.

Silicon Optix announced that its Reon-VX HQV video processor will be featured in Toshiba’s new top-of-the-line HD DVD player, the HD-XA2.

I may have to wait and see what the video quality of this product looks like with SD and HD content.

I beg for a review of this Bryan.

Thanks, Armen, HDMI 1.3 was my top question after reading the article.

Not to worry, neither Blu Ray nor HD-DVD spec supports “deep color” of HDMI 1.3, and HDMI 1.2 is fine for outputting all lossless channels as uncompressed, lossless, high rez PCM.

I am hearing that this player is still outputting via HDMI 1.2, thus foregoing to latest x.v. Color and Lossless Dolby TrueHD. I don’t know, for 12 clams, I would wait a tad more 🙂
