FX, USA, Sci-Fi, TBS, Cartoon Network and CNN in HD

January 11, 2007

DirecTVForget pre-packaged HD media for a bit, USA Network, Sci Fi Channel, TBS, Cartoon Network, FX and CNN will should make their HDTV debuts sometime in 2007, according to this TV Week article. CNN HD is currently slated to launch in September, launch dates for the other networks including FX weren’t available but all seemed to be on-track for a 2007 launch. DirecTV appears to have already signed carriage deals with many of the networks, as announced during their CES press conference.

In addition to the networks mentioned above, “an NBC Universal spokesperson confirmed the company will launch a “suite of HD networks”. 2007 is shaping up to be the year Hi-Def freaks finally get the majority of our programming in HD. Of the announced networks to begin offering HD simulcasts of their existing channels, I’d have to say I’m most excited about Sci-Fi and FX, the Shield in HD even with the shows gritty 8mm look would be an improvement over my carrier’s transmission. Viva La HD!
