Disney to Launch Four HD Channels

March 15, 2007

DisneyEarlier this month it was MGM announcing plans for their new HDTV channel, now its Disney’s turn. According to Broadcasting & Cable the new HD channels include ESPN News HD (ESPN is owned by Disney), Toon Disney HD, Disney Channel HD, and ABC Family HD. ESPN News HD is scheduled to be launched on DirecTV in early 2008 , with Toon Disney HD, Disney Channel HD and ABC Family HD to follow later in the year.

Obviously sports buffs will gravitate toward ESPN’s new HD offering but I’m looking forward to catching some of those classic live-action Disney movies… that is until I went over to ‘The Disney Channel’s’ programming schedule and quickly realized that’s not what the channel airs. As a matter of fact it took me four pages of listings to find something I even recognized as Disney; feeling mighty old today.

It looks as if ABC Family might be a better candidate for some of those classic Disney live-action movies, err…on second thought, a quick glance at this months movies on ‘ABC Family’ reveals gems such as ‘Parenthood’, ‘Bring it On’, ‘Sleepover’ and ‘Chasing Liberty’. Ok, hopefully the new HD additions to their standard definition counterparts will encourage Disney to dig a little deeper into the vaults, one can hope anyway.

    Disney HD…what a scam.

ALL of the movies they broadcast on their “HD” channels (except ABC) are upconverted 4×3 standard def movies.

They should be sited for false advertisement.
