I have had the HC5000 in my home for 50 hours, and now I currently have the Sony VPL 50. The review above is pretty much dead on. If money was not an issue. I would own the Sony, because of the film-like quality. But the Mitsubishi in my opinion is one of if not the best for the money. I like it more than the Panasonic PT-AE1000, a lot more. The sharpness and clarity on the Mits is quite impressive.

Larry- With an anamorphic lens and a 2:35 screen, yes it gives true 2:35 to 1. Does this imply that the HC5000 will properly process cinemascope material to a constant height screen?

I recently purchased this projector but have not set it up. I am very happy with mine and I love the feature that you can preset 3 custom memory settings. The price difference is why I purchased the HC5000.

This is a great review. I have a HC5000 and have been wanting to compare it with a Pearl. Since they are the same panels I am interested to see how they fare, also the $1500 discount is a nice bounus.

Hopefully you can get on of the Epson’s soon to compare as well.
