Why should I invest a couple hundred dollars in a technology that might be bunk in a year? Maybe if I was in the market for a new dvd player, I'd consider spending the extra 200$ and upgrade, but when dvd players are so cheap it really doesn't make fiscal sense. But then again, people think with their emotions rather then their pocketbooks all the time. Look at Bush junior!

I don’t think the average consumer is going to spend money on either format when so many huge CE companies are battling and I’m one of them. Especially on the HD DVD side of things. Sure it would be nice if the war was over but at 299.99 w/5 movies - who cares?! Anybody who has an income even from only minimum wage part-time work can afford that. It's just a great way to enjoy HD films for a while, no matter what happens. Just buy an HD-A2 (which is also a great upconverter for regular DVDs) with the promotion, enjoy the 5 free HD DVDs, and then you don't really need to spend much else to continue to get maximum HD happiness. Afterall, you can then just peacefully rent HD DVDs for great entertainment until the war ends or until you pass out from great picture quality overload. Either way, you guys who haven't jumped in should definitely go for it...

Wow, yes, these promotions are amazing, leaving it so now no one has an excuse to not pick up a player.
