Pioneer Elite 94HD

I wanted to give you guys (and gals) a heads-up on a few reviews we’re working on, to allow some questions ahead of time, before we shuffle the gear off to its final destination. The first piece up for review will be Pioneer Elite’s new BDP-94HD Blu-ray player, with its 1080p24 output, internal TrueHD decoding, and impressive media streaming capabilities (or are they? we’ll find out), this could very well be the player to watch. (bad pun)

Later in the week we’ll begin our review of Denon’s new AVR-4308ci surround receiver. Yes, begin. The 4308 is just too chock-full of features for us to try and digest in one sitting. I plan to start with an overview and then get into the on-screen GUI, media streaming via ethernet (wi-fi and ethernet) and Dolby TrueHD – DTS-HD audio functions separately. We’re really excited about both of these products, stay tuned.

A few questions about the Denon 4308:

    – For the media streaking, how well does it work with iTunes? Have you tried using TwonkyMedia with it to see if you can stream Apple Lossless media to it? All my CD’s are currently ripped as Apple Lossless so I just need to decide if I want to use a Squeezebox to stream them, or if something else will work.
    – How well does the Denon do 3:2 pulldown on 1080i material? That’s one reason I’m strongly leaning towards the Onkyo 875/905 over the Denon 3808/4308 series, since I have a 1080p DLP (the other being potential macroblocking issues)
    – What kind of delay does the scaling introduce? Will scaling the 480i/480p from a Nintendo Wii make games such as Guitar Hero 3 unplayabale (once it’s released)?

Thanks if you are able to test any of these areas, I really need to upgrade to an HDMI receiver soon.
