Much better then I expected from the previews. If does have that "family friendly" vibe in parts but the human stuff never gets as corny or insipid as I feared - but rather keeps a tone more like Jurassic Park than say Star Wars: Episode I. I was also quite pleased with the amount of action and screen-time for the bots that was in the film (i.e., it has a ton of both...it's just that as an action-junkee, I feared that it would have too little of either). I'd give it a 9 out of 10 for what it is. Definitely one of Bay's best/better movies.

By the way, finally saw Transformers last night…it was good! It seems like any time the robots aren't on screen there's a bunch of annoying characters doing pointless things in a boring or unfunny way. Are you sure it's good? I'm an action junkee but I can't stand movies like "The Day After Tomorrow" that are all human BS and no crazy action substance. Independence Day was amazing in the theater when it came out but it hasn't held up well over time (watching it today, nearly everything that isn't an action scene will make you groan).
IMO, the Michael Bay movies should be put in this order: The Rock > Bad Boys > Armageddon > Pearl Harbor > Bad Boys II > The Island. I prefer his movies that are balanced in one style/tone/genre and have plenty of action, comedy, or whatever they set out to do with few scenes of corny BS. Do you still think I will like this or what?
I'll wait to rent the HD disc instead if there is any reasonable doubt...

I was a big Michael Bay fan prior to his last few films and I am definitely ready to hate this film based on the previews/clips I’ve seen.
