Enter the Dragon

February 10, 2008

I first stumbled across these speakers doing some research for a site redesign but have since become fixated on them, there’s just something about the marriage of form and function here that’s undeniable. My hats off to the folks at Axelsson design for the fun factor of this design (not that I actually wear one) but just as importantly their consideration of what a speakers really about, the sound.

The “Dragon Speakers” are front ported (through the dragons mouth no less) and feature Peerless tweeters and Vifa bass/midrange drivers, good components but of course the proof is always in the pudding, er listening. The speakers go for about $940 plus shipping which is hardly chump change but probably in-line for something of this nature i.e. clearly not mass produced (yet), I think I’ll have to wait but they’re very cool. Maybe a better post title would have been ‘Exit the Dragon‘.

  • Clever design. Dare I say – that’s really thinking outside the box! For those who have to consider spousal approval factor when selecting speakers, these are a worthy look-see. In the end, as mentioned, the sound produced will be the most important thing.
