Front Projector Shipments Up 28%, Music to My Ears
September 1, 2006
While not as provocative as headlines like “Plasma TV sales up 87%” I’m really pleased to hear about any increase in front projection sales and a 28% increase isn’t too shabby in my book. In all honesty a 28% increase is quite impressive if you consider how little the typical retailer promotes front projection.
Walk into [...]

Mitsubishi HC5000, 1080p Front Projector
August 23, 2006
We’ve already explored some of the 1080p DLP and SXRD front projectors set to make a big impact at the up-coming CEDIA Expo in Denver, this September 13-17th. However I was just able to get confirmation from Mitsubishi America on what might be one of, if not the most affordable 1080p front-projectors introduced at this [...]

InFocus IN76 Video Projector Review
August 14, 2006
It’s odd to think that video projectors with 720 lines of vertical resolution and 800 lumens are available for less than $3000, considering that when I got into the business a comparable projector would have sold for nearly five times that, not that we even had 720p then but that’s a different story altogether..
For the [...]

Sony Pearl (VPL-VW50) Projector Confirmed
August 7, 2006
So now we have a model number, some specifications and even a rough street date of October for release. Now all we need is a firm retail price and Sony can claim the distinction of offering the lowest priced (estimated around 6k) 1080p front projector on the market.
About those specifications, it looks like the Pearl [...]

Sharp Announces XV-Z21000 1080p Front Projector
As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, the later half of 2006 and into 2007 will be an exciting time for front projection enthusiasts. We can add yet another projector manufacturer to the ever growing list of 1080p capable displays. Sharp has announced their XV-Z21000 with full 1920×1080 resolution, 10bit image processing, 2 HDMI inputs, 7 [...]

Marantz Ships 1080p DLP Front Projector
June 29, 2006
Well it seems as if Marantz is ready to deliver DLP’s answer to 1080p front projection, the VP-11S1 is scheduled to be available to consumers in July, for a suggested retail price of $19,999.
I had hoped that DLP’s first forays into 1080p front projection would offer Sony’s VPL-VW100 a run for its money. But with [...]

A Pearl to compliment Sony’s Ruby?
June 10, 2006
I really try to stay way from rumors here; typically rumors in the consumer electronics world even if they contain partial truth, rarely turn out to be exactly as first described. And even though I’m going to indulge this one, I do not recommend letting this un-proven bit of whispering through the grapevine, deter you [...]

Wider Widescreen
May 1, 2006
Why does it still have black bars? I thought this was widescreen? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had this conversation with my customers. I don’t blame them in the slightest however, to the uninitiated 16:9, 1.78:1, anamorphic and 2.35:1 probably sound like a foreign language.
To defuse some of this confusion I generally [...]

Buying a projector? Read this
April 10, 2006
Buying a new high definition video projector can provide you with an immersive home theater experience that’s hard to rival with all but the largest of LCD’s and Plasma’s. There are however a few things to keep in mind with video projectors to ensure that you get the most out of your new investment.
Projector lamps, [...]
